Roger offers private instruction from his well-equipped workshop in Rollinsford, New Hampshire, and is available to teach at your location when the situation warrants.

What you'll learn

Instruction is tailored entirely to your needs and skill level. Areas of focus include:

  • General hand tool and machine skills

  • Veneering and marquetry

  • Inlay work — one of Roger's signature specialties

  • Period furniture techniques and joinery

  • Project-based learning, where a finished piece becomes the vehicle for the lesson

Where possible, instruction is built around a project — because there is no better way to learn than to make something real.

A note on group instruction

Group classes can be valuable — particularly for those who enjoy the social dimension of learning alongside others. But they move at one pace, follow a fixed curriculum, and offer limited individual feedback. Private instruction is simply more effective for anyone with specific goals, an existing skill set, or a genuine commitment to the craft.

Sessions for Two — A Shared Experience

These paired sessions can be scheduled as single lessons or as immersive multi-day or weeklong experiences — an annual tradition for some who return year after year.

Scheduling & Rates

Instruction is billed at $90 per hour. A block of 10 hours is available for $750. Materials for project-based sessions are an additional cost.
